Three copy-ready templates — mid-level, senior and lead — written for 2026 FastAPI roles. Paste one into your careers page, or send it to us as a brief and meet vetted FastAPI engineers in 48 hours instead.
Mid-level FastAPI engineer
Delivers features independently within established patterns.
About the role We are looking for a Mid-level FastAPI Engineer to build and maintain production APIs for customer-facing products. You will work in a small cross-functional team with product, frontend, data, and platform engineers. The role suits someone who can deliver well-tested features, ask good questions, and improve existing code without over-engineering. What you'll do Design and implement REST APIs using FastAPI, Python 3.12 or 3.13, Pydantic v2, and SQLAlchemy 2.x. Build request and response models, write migrations with Alembic, and add tests with pytest. Debug API, database, and integration issues across local, staging, and production environments. Document endpoints through OpenAPI and clear README updates. Participate in code reviews and help keep service behavior consistent. What you'll bring Hands-on experience shipping FastAPI or similar Python APIs. Solid Python skills, relational database experience, and comfort with Git, Docker, and CI. You understand validation, dependency injection, basic async I/O trade-offs, and HTTP status codes. You communicate trade-offs clearly and can work from product requirements to reliable implementation. Nice to have Experience with PostgreSQL, HTTPX, OpenTelemetry, cloud deployment, or background job tools such as Celery, Dramatiq, RQ, or Arq.
Senior FastAPI engineer
Owns significant areas, sets patterns and mentors.
About the role We are looking for a Senior FastAPI Engineer to own important backend services from design through production operation. You will make technical decisions, guide implementation quality, and help the team balance delivery speed with maintainability. This role is for someone comfortable with ambiguous requirements, legacy code, and production responsibility. What you'll do Design API contracts, data models, and service boundaries for FastAPI systems. Build and review Python 3.12 or 3.13 services using Pydantic v2, SQLAlchemy 2.x, Alembic, PostgreSQL, and pytest. Lead debugging of performance, reliability, and integration issues. Improve observability with structured logs, metrics, traces, and useful runbooks. Plan safe database migrations and deployment changes. Mentor mid-level engineers through code review, pairing, and design feedback. What you'll bring Strong production experience with Python backend systems and at least one substantial FastAPI service. Deep understanding of HTTP APIs, async versus sync trade-offs, database transactions, connection pooling, testing strategy, and security basics. You can explain trade-offs, write clear technical plans, and collaborate with product and platform teams. Nice to have Experience with multi-tenant systems, OAuth2/OIDC, Kubernetes, OpenTelemetry, event-driven architecture, or durable background processing with Celery, Dramatiq, RQ, Arq, or cloud queues.
Lead FastAPI engineer
Sets technical direction and leads a team.
About the role We are looking for a Lead FastAPI Engineer to shape backend architecture and raise engineering standards across several services or product teams. You will remain hands-on, but your impact will also come through technical direction, mentoring, review practices, and coordination with product, security, data, and platform stakeholders. What you'll do Set patterns for FastAPI services, including API design, error models, authentication, authorization, observability, testing, and deployment safety. Lead architecture discussions for new services and major changes to existing ones. Guide teams using Python 3.12 or 3.13, Pydantic v2, SQLAlchemy 2.x, Alembic, PostgreSQL, pytest, and containerized deployment. Review designs and pull requests for correctness, operability, and long-term maintainability. Identify cross-service risks such as inconsistent contracts, unsafe migrations, weak tenant isolation, or missing telemetry. Coach senior and mid-level engineers and help unblock complex production issues. What you'll bring A track record leading production Python API systems and influencing technical decisions beyond your own tickets. Strong judgment around service boundaries, data ownership, security, performance, and operational risk. You communicate clearly with technical and non-technical peers and can turn ambiguous business goals into staged technical plans. Nice to have Experience defining platform standards, running architecture review forums, building multi-tenant SaaS systems, or operating FastAPI services on Kubernetes with OpenTelemetry-based observability.
