Go developer job description
Three copy-ready templates — mid-level, senior and lead — written for 2026 Go roles. Paste one into your careers page, or send it to us as a brief and meet vetted Go engineers in 48 hours instead.
Mid-level Go engineer
Delivers features independently within established patterns.
About the role We are hiring a Mid Go Engineer to build and maintain backend services used by product teams and customers. You will work in a remote engineering team, ship production code regularly, and take ownership of well-defined service areas with support from senior engineers. What you'll do Design, implement, and test HTTP and event-driven services in Go. Work with PostgreSQL, queues, cloud infrastructure, and CI pipelines. Improve reliability through better error handling, logging, metrics, and runbooks. Review code, participate in planning, and help break product requirements into safe technical changes. Debug production issues and follow them through to permanent fixes. What you'll bring Professional experience building backend services in Go. Strong understanding of context, interfaces, testing, modules, and common concurrency patterns. Comfort with REST or gRPC APIs, SQL, containerized development, and Git-based workflows. You write clear code, ask good questions, and care about maintainability as much as delivery. Nice to have Experience with Kubernetes, OpenTelemetry, Redis, Kafka or NATS, Terraform, or performance profiling with pprof. Familiarity with secure coding practices, govulncheck, and working across UK or US time zones is helpful.
Senior Go engineer
Owns significant areas, sets patterns and mentors.
About the role We are hiring a Senior Go Engineer to own important backend systems from design through operation. You will make technical decisions, improve service reliability, and guide other engineers while staying hands-on with code. This role suits someone who can balance product delivery, operational risk, and long-term maintainability. What you'll do Design Go services, internal libraries, and data flows for customer-facing and internal platforms. Lead implementation of complex features, review architecture proposals, and improve observability, deployment safety, and incident response. Work with databases, message queues, cloud platforms, and CI/CD. Mentor engineers through code review, pairing, and practical design discussions. Identify fragile areas in existing systems and drive incremental improvements without unnecessary rewrites. What you'll bring Deep production experience with Go, including concurrency, context propagation, testing strategy, profiling, and API design. Strong judgment around trade-offs, reliability, security, and data consistency. You can explain designs clearly, debug unfamiliar systems, and collaborate with product, infrastructure, and support teams. You are comfortable owning outcomes, not only tickets. Nice to have Experience with OpenTelemetry, Kubernetes, Terraform, PostgreSQL performance tuning, gRPC, event-driven architecture, or multi-tenant systems. Prior involvement in incident leadership, platform migrations, or building shared Go libraries is valuable.
Lead Go engineer
Sets technical direction and leads a team.
About the role We are hiring a Lead Go Engineer to shape the technical direction of a backend engineering group while remaining close to the code. You will set engineering standards, lead design for cross-team initiatives, and help managers build a healthy delivery and operational culture. This is a leadership role for someone who influences through clarity, technical depth, and consistent execution. What you'll do Define architecture for Go services, data integration, internal platforms, and reliability improvements. Lead design reviews, establish conventions for testing, observability, security, and service ownership, and ensure teams can operate what they build. Partner with product and engineering leadership to sequence work, manage technical risk, and turn ambiguous goals into delivery plans. Coach senior and mid-level engineers, raise code quality through review, and guide incident follow-up into durable improvements. What you'll bring Extensive experience delivering and operating Go systems in production. Strong judgment across distributed systems, APIs, databases, concurrency, deployment, and organizational trade-offs. You communicate clearly with engineers and non-engineers, make decisions with incomplete information, and create alignment without relying on authority. You can still dive into code when the situation requires it. Nice to have Experience leading platform modernization, multi-service migrations, compliance-sensitive systems, or globally distributed teams. Familiarity with OpenTelemetry, Kubernetes, cloud networking, PostgreSQL, event streaming, and internal developer platforms is useful.
