AWS developer job description

Three copy-ready templates — mid-level, senior and lead — written for 2026 AWS roles. Paste one into your careers page, or send it to us as a brief and meet vetted AWS engineers in 48 hours instead.

Mid-level AWS engineer

Delivers features independently within established patterns.

About the role
We are hiring a Mid-level AWS Engineer to build, operate, and improve cloud infrastructure for production applications. You will work with application engineers, security, and product teams to turn requirements into reliable AWS services using infrastructure as code and clear operational practices.

What you'll do
Design and maintain AWS workloads using services such as ECS Fargate, Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, SQS, and CloudWatch. Write and review Terraform, OpenTofu, or AWS CDK v2 changes. Build CI/CD pipelines that use OIDC and role-based access rather than long-lived keys. Troubleshoot deployments, networking, IAM, and performance issues. Improve logging, alarms, runbooks, backups, and environment consistency. Participate in incident response and post-incident reviews.

What you'll bring
Hands-on experience running production workloads on AWS. Working knowledge of VPCs, IAM, security groups, load balancers, managed databases, and serverless or container platforms. Comfort reading application logs and AWS metrics to isolate issues. Practical experience with Git, CI/CD, and code review. Clear written communication and a habit of documenting operational decisions.

Nice to have
Experience with RDS performance tuning, EventBridge or Step Functions, AWS Systems Manager, GuardDuty, AWS Config, or container image security scanning.

Senior AWS engineer

Owns significant areas, sets patterns and mentors.

About the role
We are hiring a Senior AWS Engineer to own important cloud architecture decisions and raise the reliability, security, and maintainability of our AWS platform. You will lead design discussions, guide implementation, and help teams make good trade-offs across compute, data, networking, observability, and cost.

What you'll do
Design production AWS architectures across multiple accounts and environments. Build reusable Terraform, OpenTofu, or AWS CDK v2 patterns for services, IAM, networking, deployment, and observability. Lead migrations from manual or legacy infrastructure into well-tested infrastructure as code. Improve incident response, backup and restore, deployment safety, and service-level indicators. Review designs for security, resilience, and operability. Mentor engineers through deep dives, pair reviews, and clear documentation.

What you'll bring
Strong production experience with AWS services such as ECS, EKS, Lambda, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, SQS, EventBridge, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and KMS. Deep understanding of IAM, VPC design, private connectivity, DNS, and CI/CD federation. Experience diagnosing complex failures and leading incident follow-up. Ability to explain trade-offs to engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.

Nice to have
Experience with multi-region systems, AWS Organizations, Control Tower, IAM Identity Center, Karpenter, OpenTelemetry, Security Hub, or large-scale database migrations.

Lead AWS engineer

Sets technical direction and leads a team.

About the role
We are hiring a Lead AWS Engineer to shape the cloud platform strategy and help multiple product teams ship safely and independently. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with platform ownership, mentoring, standards setting, and cross-functional decision making.

What you'll do
Define the AWS landing zone, account strategy, networking model, identity approach, and guardrails for a growing engineering organization. Lead major architecture reviews and migration plans. Establish paved paths for CI/CD, infrastructure as code, service observability, secrets, incident response, and secure access. Partner with security, compliance, product, and engineering leadership to prioritize platform work. Coach senior and mid-level engineers, review high-impact changes, and facilitate post-incident learning. Stay hands-on enough to prototype patterns and unblock difficult production issues.

What you'll bring
Extensive experience designing and operating AWS platforms at organizational scale. Strong judgment across AWS Organizations, IAM Identity Center, SCPs, VPC architectures, hybrid connectivity, ECS or EKS platforms, serverless workloads, data services, centralized logging, and security tooling. Proven ability to lead through influence, write clear technical direction, and balance speed, reliability, security, and cost.

Nice to have
Experience building internal developer platforms, running cloud governance programs, supporting regulated workloads, implementing multi-region recovery strategies, or standardizing Terraform/OpenTofu or AWS CDK v2 across many teams.
